Aunt Mary's Buttermilk Cake
Aunt Mary's Buttermilk Cake will bring back memories with the first bite. It will remind you of those glorious childhood days when you got to sneak a little piece after school while dinner was cooking.
Ingredients:
- 1 cup boiling water
- 2 tsp baking soda
- 2/3 cup shortening
- 1 cup light brown sugar firmly packed
- 1 cup white sugar
- 2 eggs
- 2 tsp vanilla or 1 tsp vanilla and 1 tsp almond flavoring
- 2-3/4 cups sifted all-purpose flour
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 cup Prairie Farms Buttermilk
Directions:
- Add soda to boiling water; set aside to cool.
- Cream shortening; add sugars and continue to cream. Add eggs and beat well; add vanilla.
- Sift together dry ingredients; add to creamed mixture alternately with buttermilk.
- Add water and soda mixture.
- Pour into greased, lightly floured pans.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes at 350 °F.
