Ingredients:

boiling water

baking soda

cup
shortening
1
cup
light brown sugar
firmly packed
1
cup
white sugar
2
eggs
2
tsp
vanilla or 1 tsp vanilla and 1 tsp almond flavoring

sifted all-purpose flour
1/2
tsp
salt

Prairie Farms Buttermilk
Directions:
Add soda to boiling water; set aside to cool.
Cream shortening; add sugars and continue to cream. Add eggs and beat well; add vanilla.
Sift together dry ingredients; add to creamed mixture alternately with buttermilk.
Add water and soda mixture.
Pour into greased, lightly floured pans.
Bake for 25-30 minutes at 350 °F.
