Prairie Farms Family of Cheeses Impress Judges at Wisconsin State Fair

EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – Cheeses from the Prairie Farms family of companies were among over 300 entries submitted at the 2022 Wisconsin State Fair Dairy Products Contest. More than 40 classes of cheese, sour cream, butter, yogurt, and milk were featured this year with Prairie Farms winning an impressive total of four awards and two top finishes in a variety of cheese classes.

In the Flavored Pepper Cheese Class, Shullsburg Creamery won first place with Salsa Cheddar cheese and judges giving a 98.725 score. Team Shullsburg also took first place in the Flavored Hard Cheese Class with its Maple Bacon Cheddar Cheese. Judges awarded this product and extraordinary 99.700 score.

Other impressive finishes for Prairie Farms Cheese Division products include 3rd-place finishes for ShullsburgWhite Hill Baby Swiss Wheel in the Swiss Styles Class and Mindoro Blue, Danish-Style Blue, in the Blue

Veined Cheese Class. Those cheeses earned notable 97.650 and 98.575 scores respectively. “We’re excited to come away with some impressive finishes at this year’s fair,” said Rob Frie, General Manager at Shullsburg Creamery. “We couldn’t do it without the quality milk from our dairy farms and the dedication from our cheesemakers and team members in the great State of Wisconsin.”

Over the last 22 years, Prairie Farms Cheese Division Products have won 3rd place or higher at the Wisconsin State Fair a total of 12 times. The 2022 Grand Master Cheesemaker will be announced at the Blue Ribbon Dairy Products Auction on Thursday, August 11th, at the Wisconsin State Fair Park.

The Wisconsin State Fair Dairy Products Contest and Auction is an annual event hosted by the Wisconsin State Fairy Dairy Promotion Board. Each year, over 400 locally produced products are judged and ranked across more than 40 dairy classes. The Blue Ribbon Dairy Products Auction features the sale of each winning class entry from the Wisconsin State Fair Dairy Products Contest. The money raised at the auction supports student scholarships and the board’s dairy promotion efforts at the Wisconsin State Fair.
