Two mugs of hot chocolate topped with whipped cream and assorted toppings, served beside a board of marshmallows, peppermint candies, cookies, and wafer sticks.

Ingredients:

Slow Cooker Hot Chocolate

  • 6 cups Prairie Farms Whole Milk
  • 1 1/2 cups Prairie Farms Heavy Whipping Cream
  • 14 oz (1 can) sweetened condensed milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon fine sea salt
  • 1/2 cup Dutch-process cocoa powder
  • 12 ounces dark or bittersweet chocolate 60–70%, finely chopped
  • 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract

Hot Chocolate Toppings Board

  • Prairie Farms Light Whipped Cream
  • Marshmallows
  • Peppermint sticks or candies crushed or whole
  • Shortbread cookies
  • Stroopwafels regular or mini
  • Wafer cookie straws
  • Chocolate chips
  • Butterscotch chips
  • Chocolate syrup
  • Caramel sauce
  • Cinnamon sticks
  • Grated nutmeg

Directions:

Slow Cooker Hot Chocolate

  • Add milk, heavy cream, sweetened condensed milk, and salt to slow cooker, then whisk in cocoa powder until mostly combined. Don't worry if few small lumps remain.
  • Stir in chopped chocolate.
  • Cover and cook on LOW for 2-3 hours, whisking once halfway through, until chocolate is completely melted and hot chocolate is smooth and steaming.
  • Switch slow cooker to WARM. Whisk in vanilla extract just before serving.

Hot Chocolate Toppings Board

  • Select large board, tray, or platter. Arrange small bowls or ramekins on board to hold smaller items like chocolate chips, butterscotch chips, caramel sauce, chocolate syrup, and grated nutmeg.
  • Cluster bigger items around outer edges: stroopwafels, shortbread cookies, wafer cookie straws, and peppermint sticks
  • Fill any gaps with marshmallows and cinnamon sticks so board looks full.
  • Set board next to slow cooker with cans of whipped cream. Ladle hot chocolate into mugs and let everyone build their own.
